Few of the famous Japanese ancient castle can remain their historical and cultural features.  Kochi Castle is one of them, with 400 years history, has been listed as the Japanese cultural heritage and also in the world.  It is made by the seignior, Yamauchi Kazutoyo, also beloved by Tokugawa Leyasu, which is mainly for resisting the enemies through the stoned wall.  Now we are passing back our time to Edo Period.

1.  Architectural 

In fact, the Kochi Castle is burnt by the fire but rebuilt, which is used until the Edo period, the Meiji Restoration and the Pacific War.  There is no big difference to the prime appearance although it passes many year, such miracle~

No easy to find this castle can resist more than hundreds of people because of its height.  It is more than 40 meters height, approaching to the clouds.  Also, color of the walls is as white as pure, a kind of treasure in Japan.

Looking through the building’s coverage, there are some mental hooks or stone walls.  That’s why the enemies cannot enter to the castle easily. 

Anyone knows what is this?  In fact, the total quantities of the rainfall are very high every year.  To prevent flooding, there will be a pipe to drain the flooded water. 

Well-known “Chaser door”, the black one in the picture, looks like useless since it is not tall enough.  In fact, it helps to monitor the enemies by the short door.  In addition to this, the black design can distract the enemies while they are at war.

2.  History

The cultural history is also vital to the Kochi Castle, not only for the architecture one.  We can understand it through the History Information Musuem and the Tenshu.  Lots and lots of historical pictures and the actors’ clothes from the Taiga Drama are shown, bringing us back to the Edo Period. 

The design of this corridor is simple and unadorned, another kind of historical feelings~
